The Ideal Game

In 2016, I completed a PhD in English Literature which looked at what happens when stories become games. It’s sat on my hard drive ever since, so I’ve decided to break it up into essay sized chunks and publish it here. My thesis was based around five case studies, each of which I’ll rewrite to ditch all of the academic jargon, and will be uploaded on a monthly(ish) basis:

The Box Men - Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima, and Kobo Abe

Games of Darkness - Conrad, Coppola and Spec Ops: The Line

Ayn Rand in Rapture - Bioshock and Atlas Shrugged

The Ideal New Eden - EVE Online

Stalking the Zone - Tarkovsky, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Teilhard de Chardin
